I’d consider RestaurantName.menu to be an excellent use of a vanity extension for marketing purposes. It can measurably enhance ease of use for people online. We generally know the name of a restaurant in advance when we’re curious about their fare (food/pricing). So it will be easy for consumers to get into the habit of navigating directly to the menu of interest. This may not be earth-shattering as changes go. But the simplification is a benefit, however slight. Domainers should not be overly critical of such things — whether they’re .COM purists or somewhat skeptical TLD agnostics like myself. And here’s why: .MENU for getting to a menu encourages direct navigation. That’s a boon to the domain industry as a whole because it will train consumers that they CAN navigate the web WITHOUT going through the Google gate keeper and paying the Google toll.
