It is a tricky question to answer, George, If I had to make a guess, it would be down to diversification. The .COM TLD is actually a heavily diversified TLD that is active in all major country level markets and has a high percentage of the domain name markets in those countries. It is also a mature TLD. The new gTLDs have yet to completely go through their first renewal period. The also don’t have the same level of diversification that .COM has in the market. They are often limited by the TLD string. The new gTLDs are at a very early stage of their development and their market value has not become apparent. It will take a few years before some of them build momentum but they are closer to being ccTLD in terms of performance (slow start with long acceptance period) than the gTLDs launched in the last ten years.
