I don’t see how these domains can be worth much money given the short window of opportunity for using them. Steering traffic toward such a domain costs even more money. So does web design. There are plenty of ways to buy attention more cheaply and more quickly. By the time the website and marketing plan are put together, the election’s over! Domains are worth money when they’re used long-term. They’re even worth money if you can use them for a short marketing campaign. But marketers need more lead time to prepare. In order extract that much value from a 1-month marketing blitz, you’ve got know what you’re doing well in advance. My guess would be that – if the politicians’ handlers are buying these domains – they have no real plan to use them. Maybe they’ll cook something up.
