Another .IO Startup Exits as Apiary.io sells to Oracle

Looks like Apiary.io made out fine (and I don’t think these kind of companies necessarily need to exit to be considered a success), but I’m sure Apiary.io wasn’t their first choice for a domain. And I’d also bet some of the people looking for their site go to Apiary.com by mistake, or send emails to their staff using @apiary.com – so the emails get misdirected or lost. That is the trade off. There are many examples now of small companies using a new gtld or exotic cctld like .io, but will we see a company become a household name using one of these extensions and not change it when they do? Or will we see the average person become aware of these extensions? I think it’s still a ways off. From a domainer point of view, there is a market for good .io’s and other extensions that might be someone’s second choice after .com. But some domainers who write about these other extensi...
